LIONFISH
by the
NUMBERS
INVADERS ON THE PROWL

VENOMOUS LIONFISH HAVE  SPREAD ALONG THE EASTERN U.S.
AND INTO THE CARIBBEAN. THEY COULD DISRUPT NATIVE FISH POPULATIONS IF THEIR NUMBERS CONTINUE TO GROW.

BIOLOGY

Females spawn year round,
every 4 days and produce
25,000 eggs per spawning

DISTRIBUTION
CONTROL

Lionfish are now one of the
top predators in many coral
reef environments of the Atlantic.
Lionfish pose a significant danger to the entire ocean eco-systems
they invade economically, environmentally, and ecologically.

Spearfishing at this
point is the optimum
way to control the populations
